    • We have some official tasks and announcements to do first and then afterward we are going to do a fun activity where someone will win a cozy SSU Nursing Sweatshirt! 
  2. Fall Semester Committee Sign Ups: on our Facebook and website!
    • Remember at least one per semester is required for an honor cord at graduation!

    • Submit the form to the Vice President, Ana Salazar, by the December 1st meeting. 
    • Includes hours log, committee, meeting, and event participation. 
  4. 2021 CNSA Virtual Convention October 7th through 10th 
    • SSNSA is excited to be able to provide scholarships to any interested party for this event for the full ticket price. This is also an event that qualifies for your hours sheet, so keep track of your attendance. 
    • The CNSA convention is a great place to network and build skills that will benefit us all as future nurses.

  5. Elections this semester: 
    • It is that time of year again to vote in the next board of directors of the SSNSA!
    • I will be posting a google form for you to nominate yourself for a position in the election. 
      • Deadline to fill out will be the October 18th.  
    • At the October 20th meeting candidates will be asked to introduce themselves and talk about why they are running for the position and what they hope to accomplish if they are elected. 
    • Those elected will begin their term January with a transition meeting in December.

        1. President: Katie Raney 
          • I am a Senior, postbaccalaureate student. I have a previous degree in Early Childhood Studies from SSU. I was born and raised in Sonoma County and hope to stay relatively local after graduation. 
          • My favorite hobby right now is playing D&D with my best friends. My favorite potato form is my Grandma’s shredded potato casserole and my favorite mythical creature is a Pegasus. 
          • As President I prepare agendas and preside over every meeting, I serve as a resource person for members, faculty and outside sources, I book meeting spaces and organize meetings, I guide and support board members in setting and fulfilling goals for the semester, I serve as a liaison between the SSNSA chapter and state CNSA board, I also act as chair of the New Grad Q&A Night Committee in the spring semester and chair of the Elections Committee in the Fall, and maintain constituency status with NSNA/CNSA as well as with SSU. 
          • Must be a nursing student in good standing. Must also be a NSNA/CNSA member.

            1. Serve as Chair for the Legislative & Resolutions committee;
            2. Work as a committee to develop a resolution from SSNSA to be brought to the CNSA annual convention; 
            3. Support and educate members in the resolutions development process including their
              presentation at the CNSA annual convention House of Delegates;
            4. Ensure, if SSNSA resolution is chosen at the CNSA annual convention House of Delegates, it is also submitted to NSNA by the deadline;
            5. Present and defend SSNSA resolution at the CNSA and NSNA House of Delegates;
            6. Encourage members to be actively interested in and involved in nursing policy making, legislature, and leadership.

    • For those that are new to the club, we are the Sonoma State Nursing Student Association. 
    • We are a group of Sonoma State nursing students who work together to plan philanthropic events, coordinate networking engagements, mentor pre-nursing students, facilitate leadership learning opportunities, and more in an effort to better the holistic education of future nurse leaders and to serve our community in the process.

  3. Policies and Procedures Manual Changes/Updates
    • I would like to go over some changes that occurred over the summer to our Policies and Procedures manual affecting club hours, qualifications for graduation cords, and board member position responsibilities. 
    • Cord/Hours: 
      • To be eligible for an honor cord, a member must have participated 35 hours in the SSNSA (Meeting and SSNSA events participation only).
      • Hours included are all hours in association with SSNSA and its activities (except committee participation). Hours that are eligible to be counted towards cords include, but are not limited to: meeting hours, event hours, and volunteer hours, etc. 
      • To be eligible for a leadership cord, a member must have participated in the SSNSA board of directors. 
      • To be considered for an honor cord, hours must include all below:
        1. Attending monthly meetings (50% of meetings)
        2. Participation in SSNSA events (one outside event each semester)
        3. Acting as a member of a committee to organize an SSNSA sponsored event (one committee each semester). Not included hours
    • Board Member position changes: 
      • President: Facilitate New Grad Q&A event in the spring semester. (Chair of the organizing committee)
      • Vice President: Provide a list of members eligible for honor cords to the treasurer who will verify membership status and order cords for eligible members. Facilitate Nurse’s Night Q&A event in the fall semester. (Chair of the organizing committee)
      • Treasurer: Verify membership status of all eligible honor cord recipients and place order for honor cords. 
      • Secretary: Maintain an attendance list of member and board meetings. 
      • Communications Director: All information for events hosted by SSNSA will be forwarded to Communications Director for review and approval prior to posting to social media pages
      • Volunteer Coordinator: Contact and work with individuals or organizations in the community to plan, set up, and volunteer at events; at least four per year including but not limited to Blood Drives, Luis Cid Memorial Beach Clean-up, health fair events, 
      • Fundraising Director: Facilitate at least 1-2 fundraising events each semester
      • Merchandise Director: Work with other agencies to create and purchase merchandise for the SSNSA members; at least two merchandise campaigns per year; one in Fall & one in Spring. 
      • Pre-Nursing Liaison: Facilitate Pre-Nursing Q&A event. (Chair of the organizing committee)

  8. Membership dues:
    • SSNSA membership
      • With CNSA/NSNA membership: $5 per year
      • Without CNSA/NSNA membership: $10 per year
      • Chapter membership dues are required to be eligible to vote in the October elections, to hold any board position, and to be eligible for a graduation honor cord. 
    • CNSA membership IS $45 for one year and $80 for two years. 
      • CNSA membership is a requirement to hold the following board member positions: President, Vice President, and Treasurer. 
    • Contact Treasurer Lexy Deetken to pay dues.

  3. CNSA cords have arrived
    • NSNA cords expected delivery date is April 23rd
    • Drive through pick up station on campus Sunday May 2nd from 1000 to 1200
      • Waiting to hear back from AS exactly where on campus, so stay tuned.
      • Feel free to have a designated senior pick up for you if you can’t make it that day. Just communicate it to me so I know who to give them to.
      • If you absolutely can’t make it May 2nd I can set up another drive through pick up for graduation day May 22nd.

  2. North Bay Science Discovery Day
    • Thank you to Ana Salazar and Taylor White for helping coordinate and present the hand hygiene activity and discussion at the NBSDD. 
  3. New Grad Night Q&A 
    1. Thank you to our Class of 2020 New Grad Panelists, Caeli, Kaitlin, Jasmine, and Waymey for all your insight! 
  4. Pre-Nursing Guest Speaker Q&A Night March 29th at 6pm
    • The Monday following spring break 
    • Current SSU BSN students will be available to answer any questions you may have and chat about their experience in the program.
  5. Luis Cid Memorial Pin Fundraiser
    • Memorial plaque chosen via Facebook poll 
    • Collecting Funds 
      • Also collecting donations 
      • Any remaining funds not used for the plaque will be donated to Luis’ family 
      • We’re working on a way to collect orders/donations, keep an eye out for instruction to come soon! 
  6. Distributing Pins in April/May
    1. Depending on current tier will decide how we accomplish this. We will keep you posted on the plan once we get closer to it. 
  7. Luis Cid Memorial Beach Clean Up Day 
    • April 11th 1-4pm 
    • Location: Salmon Creek Beach, or any waterway that works for you based on your schedule and social distancing preferences. 
    • Masks are required and 6ft of distancing recommended.
    • At Salmon Creek we will be providing gloves, water, and hand sanitizer. 
    • We will be cataloguing our trash collection efforts on the Clean Swell App. 
      • Download the app then select “Start Collecting”

  1. Hi Everyone, thank you for coming to the second meeting of the semester!
  2. Some updates about what we discussed last meeting:
    • We are pulling together a fundraiser in Luis’s honor, I will let Alyssa, our fundraising director, talk more about that.
    • We are also working on putting together a Volunteer Day of Service in Luis’s honor as well, that will be coordinated by Taylor White, our volunteer director.
    • Stay tuned for updates of specific dates.
    • There is also a Padlet that was posted to the SSNSA Facebook page as a place for people to write memories, share condolences, and post photos of Luis.
      • The page will close on February 28th and will be translated to Spanish and shared with his family.
  3. There is also an opportunity to be involved in the North Bay Science Discovery Day
    • A STEM event for 4th-8th grade students
    • Saturday March 13 from 9am -6pm
    • Initial plan is to prerecord a video presenting a hand hygiene activity for kids to do at home.
    • I would love to get some volunteers for choreographing the activity presentation and film editing.
      • If you are interested in hearing more about this event or about getting involved please reach out to me, Ana, or Taylor.
  4. Based on the poll from Facebook, we noticed a greater interest in the Pre-nursing Q&A Night and the New Grad Q&A Night, so we are going to move forward with planning those nights and circle back to the other options when those are done.
    • If you are interested in being a speaker or know anyone who might be interested, please reach out to Danielle or Sarah for the Pre-Nursing Night, and reach out to me for the New Grad Night.  
  5. Speaking of polls, I did a general availability poll on Facebook for scheduling future events for SSNSA.
    • If you have not completed the poll yet, please do so we can try to schedule things when the most people can make it.
    • So far it looks like Wednesday, Sunday, and Monday evenings are the top availabilities.
  6. We also wanted to let you all know that SSNSA is allowing social justice nursing seminars for countable hours.
    • If you come across one that you believe would qualify please forward the info to me or Sophia the Communications Director to be able to get others the opportunity as well.
    • Only catch is if it an event you are using for school credit then it should not also be used for SSNSA hours, please keep those separate.
    • One coming up was just emailed from Ana Valdez: Dr. Piri Ankerman-Barger will be presenting the topic of Racism and Cultural Humility in Nursing on March 1st at 4pm

  2. Welcome to the first SSNSA meeting of the semester!
    • I would like to start with some quick housekeeping things since this is our first meeting and then we have some important and saddening news to discuss afterward.  
  3. So, to start, since the last meeting we got our Secretary in place, thank you Olivia Janku!
    • We have two remaining positions to be filled, Volunteer Coordinator and Legislative Director.
      • Taylor White has graciously offered to take on the Volunteer Coordinator role.
      • If anyone else is interested in this position, I would like you to speak up now and we could plan a vote.
      • If there are no other takers, then I hereby motion to appoint Taylor White to the board position of Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Now I would like to open the floor for anyone who would like to be eligible for the Legislative Director position.

  7. Scheduling Pre-nursing Q&As, Discussions, guest speaker nights, over Zoom
    • Would starting a Facebook poll be easy enough to schedule these events when most convenient for people?
  8. Now as some of you probably have heard, Luis Cid Balderas, a junior in the nursing program passed away on his 28th birthday this last Thursday. This has been shocking and heartbreaking news to us all.
    • I would also like to open the floor now to anyone who has further ideas on how to support his family or any commemorative event ideas in his honor. We will be discussing these ideas in greater detail during the board meeting to follow but I would love to hear any ideas from the group at large.
    • And if you think of any ideas later feel free to reach out to us either via email, the Facebook page, or the Instagram page.
