  1. She is a BSN program and Masters program educator here at SSU.
  2. General Education: meant to enhance the liberal arts.
  3.  There are changes occurring to the GE pattern:
    • Normal pattern: fulfill lower division GE.
    • Nursing: fulfills upper division GE.
    • Pre-Nursing students have priority registration. This registration exists because SSU Nursing School need a high graduation rate, so the trend of classes must be available to us.
      • Some people find it unethical that students are paying more for outside classes online or the CLEPT so that they can graduate on time.
      • That money goes away from Sonoma State.
        • There are 5 surrounding Junior College Nursing schools in service area. Junior colleges graduate 300 ADN students per year, however, here at SSU we only graduate 24 in the BSN program per year.
    • Making more more online classes in the GE pattern:
      • Nursing Students have more units than most majors.
        • Showing there is a problem getting other GE’s, like ethnic studies, more readily available through SSU.
      • Our portal for taking online classes is only available to full-time students.
  4. Administration wants to examine what kind of barriers to the Nursing Program are created by the GE pattern, because students don’t get the classes fulfilled.
    • She urges students to meet with their representatives to help voice concerns: transfer from Junior College into the CSU system.
    • Priority is given to Nursing students so that they can complete the GE upper division and graduate on time.
  5. Area E: Psych 302, has been removed from the GE pattern for students starting in Fall 2020.
    • Students will only need lower division area E.
    • Rachel Napoli will be the advisor for the Fall 2020 Nursing cohort.
