Agenda: 18 November 2020, Zoom Meeting

  1. Hi Everyone – Thanks for coming to our November meeting! This is our second to last meeting of the semester!
    1. Last meeting is December 9th at 3:30.
  • We just finished our last two events for this semester!
    • New-grad Guest Speaker Night and Pre-Nursing Q&A! If you missed either of these, keep an eye out next semester!
  • Fundraiser was Monday! Does Fundraising Director have any updates on it?
    • Waiting for word back from Round table; will fill in later.
  • Policies and Procedures Manual
    • Hopefully everyone had time to review the manual. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    • Those of you who already submitted suggestions or grammar corrections were written down and your name will be entered in a drawing for a prize that has yet to be determined!
    • No comments or suggestions were brought at the meeting.
      • Motion was made to adopt policies and procedures manual for the 2021 term. Motion was seconded by Alix. Motion passed.

    • Merch – Any updates on merch shipping?
      1. Custom Ink is having difficulty with our sweatshirt design. The design needs to be altered slightly. If anyone has an issue with this reach out and we can get it taken care of.
    • Volunteer Coordinator – donations coming up in December!
      1. More info about money donations to come on the FB page in December.
  • Dues
    • Last date to pay dues is by the next meeting!
    • $5 for CNSA members, $10 for non-CNSA members, ONCE A YEAR
  • Any of the new board members that have yet to meet with the old board members, please do so! We want to make sure everyone is prepared to take over in January!

      • Be sure to come! We are going to try to do something fun even though it is over zoom! Maybe a kahoot game or something.

  2. Congratulations to Dr. Napoli! She was awarded the CNSA Faculty of the Year award at the conference last weekend! Dr, Napoli we really appreciate everything you do and have done for us. 
  3. Congrats to Lorna! She was awarded the CNSA Member of the Year award for all of her valuable contributions to SSNSA. She has been such a team player and her helpfulness has been so appreciated this last year. We are very thankful for you, Lorna! 
  4. What this semester will look like:

  6. Scheduling Pre-nursing Q&As, Discussions, guest speaker nights, over Zoom 
    • New-Grad guest speaker night – Monday November 9th at 6
    • Pre-Nursing Q&A – Monday November 16th at 6
  7. We just had our nursing guest speaker night yesterday and I think it went very well. If you weren’t able to attend this time, I would highly recommend you keep your eye out for another event like this in the future and also attend our other guest speaker nights coming in November.

  8. Voting for next board will be Today after the meeting! 
    • NOT TOO LATE TO RUN, we currently do not have the following positions filled: 
    • Secretary, volunteer coordinator, fundraising director, and legislative director
    • The link to vote will go out after the meeting to those who have paid their dues. You are not eligible to vote unless you have paid your dues

    • Please review the policies and procedures manual posted on the website and FB. We will be discussing and voting to adopt it at the November meeting.

        • There will be a prize for anyone who brings feedback or comments! You will be entered into a drawing to win a SSNSA t-shirt!

  5. CNSA Convention
    • This year’s CNSA convention will be virtual, which means there is a lot more opportunity to attend. 
    • October 2-4 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday): Nursing Resiliency – Conquering Change Together
    • Delegates ? Once we find out how many we have, we can have people sign up to be delegates 
      • Traditionally, there are 1-2, but the more CNSA members we have, the more delegates we get so sign up to be a CNSA member!

  9. Changing name of “Social Media Director” to either “Communications Director” or “Image of Nursing” – Do we make a motion to vote on it? 
  10. Would like to possibly explore developing a new legislative director position to be in charge of developing resolutions we can bring to convention – Anyone interested? And what is the process of doing this?

Agenda: 2 July 2020, Zoom Board Meeting 

  • Goals for next semester
  • Schedule for monthly meetings on Zoom 
  • Virtual Student Orientation, During the week of July 20-24, virtual student organization fair every night from 5-6:30
  1. Need people to sign up to stay for the full hour and a half, up to 5 students at a time. 
  2. We have the option to either do one night or to do all 5. 
  3. We will give a brief 5 minute presentation on our organization:
    1. Overview, purpose, introduce student leaders, annual events, benefits of getting involved, dues, and any virtual plans for the next semester. 
  4. After the intro, there will be 5 minutes for questions, and then 5 minutes until the next round of attendees will start. 
  5. There will be 6, 15-minute sessions each night 
  6. Must attend one of these trainings to be included: either July 7 at 2pm, or July 9 at 6pm. 
  7. Last day to sign up is July 6

  1. Treasurer’s report: bank account balance
  2. Pre-nursing Liason: New reminder app for info and reminders of meetings and events. Text “@prenurs1” to 81010
  3. Mentorship: Updates on incoming juniors. Orientation is May 1st at starting at 1600. More information to come! Please fill out mentorship survey. Pairing will be done around May (after events).
    • Possible club event: T shirt (tie dye) & movie night?
  4. Merchandising Director: Stickers for sale! 
  5. Associated Students thinking about allowing Venmo for the club.
  6. Volunteer Coordinator:
    • Expanding Your Horizons – March 28, 0800-1200, all spots are filled.
    • Seawolf Decision Day – April 4, 1100-1430, need volunteers. Sign up sheet will be uploaded to Facebook. (Several Seniors present agreed to volunteer as well).
  7. Clothing donation for Interlink (an SSU Community Psych Site) — thinking of tabling and having a bin in the nursing department. Need men’s clothes; socks, shoes, new underwear. Coats, long-sleeved clothes (men & women). Men’s clothes are needed, especially. More info to come.
  8. Karen Werder spoke about volunteer opportunity at the Wellness Center in Santa Rosa– Volunteers can write and teach a class on nutrition, with an emphasis on managing diabetes. Best days are Tues & Thurs 1130-1230. Contact Karen for more info. See Facebook page/reach out to Club members for her contact info.

III. Advisor Report:

  1. Any news of updates from Dr. Napoli?
    • Membership North- One day Conference on Sat, May 9th in the Cooperage at SSU. Minimal cost for lunch. Don’t have to be a member; Membership North is a good first conference to go to. If you would like to help, contact Kaitlin Suchanek.
    • May is Mental Health Awareness month. CNSA will be making a surrounding nursing students and mental health. Students are encouraged to write anonymous letters, which will be read by actors and filmed. Contact Caeli, Emily, or Rachel for more info,

IV. New Business:

  1. New-Grad Q&A Night: This Thursday, March 12th from 6-8pm in the Dry Creek Valley room. Featuring a panel of new grad nurses, talking about the new-grad experience, applying to jobs, interviewing, new grad programs, navigating the experience of being a new grad in general.
    1. We have 4 speakers coming, each from the graduating class of 2019.
  2. Vote to use club funds to buy $5 Thank You Gift Cards.
    • Motion approved by a majority vote.
  3. Coming up! Nursing Q&A night: Wednesday, April 15th from 1-3pm. Location TBD
    • Panel of nursing students answer questions about applying to the nursing program, registering for classes, etc.
  4. NSNA Convention: “Nursing: The Most Magical Profession on Earth”
    • April 15-19 th 2020, Orlando, Florida.
    • Some of our club members are CNSA board members that will be attending the conference: Caeli, Kaitlin, Adriana, An

V. Announcements

  1. We will be ordering cords soon, so if anyone has any concerns talk to Hailey or Emily.
  2. Hours sheets: Remember to fill out your volunteer hour sheets and include any volunteer experiences or activities you participate in tis semester.
    • The form is also available on the Facebook page or the website.
    • Can also add any hours from last semester.
    • Anything done through the Club counts as hours. Can add up all Club meetings (1 meeting= 1 hour) and write “Fall 2019.” Being a Board Member counts toward hours. Conventions count toward hours. (Email Emily or Hailey for more info).
  3. Remaining meetings are at 1230 on: 4/13 and 5/11 in the Alexander Valley Room. If anyone wants a reminder flyer, come pick one up.
  4.  CNSA/NSNA Membership: Join NSNA at https://nsnamembership.org/. $40 for a year and $80 for two years. The more members, the more delegates we will have at the CNSA and NSNA Conventions.

  1. Volunteer Opportunity: Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is looking for volunteers to help setup/breakdown their ceremony to induct new members of the Senior class. Saturday, February 22, in the cooperage.
    • Setup: 12:30-2:00, Breakdown: 3:30-5:00. If anyone is interested in helping out, please let me know. Juniors and Seniors can sign up on the Junior/Senior class page. 
  2. If anyone has any volunteer opportunities, please contact Lorna.
  3. CNSA/NSNA Membership: Join NSNA at https://nsnamembership.org/
    • $40 for a year and $80 for two years
    • We want more delegates!

2020 Meeting Minutes

Sonoma State Nursing Student Association

January 27, 2020 12:30pm, Alexander Valley Room

I. Introductions and Recap:

  1. Welcome Back from Break
  2. Introduce New Officers
  3. Attendance roster: Club required to fill out attendance online with student involvement. This is why students’ ID #s are needed required, as well as whether or not the student’s dues are paid. If anyone is uncomfortable with this, they can come to Emily privately.
  4. Mi Futuro Recap
    • Adriana shared about the event. Mi Futuro served to help introduce high schoolers to careers in healthcare.

II. Officer Reports:

  1. President’s Report: Possible event– Alumni Night.
    • Speaker night with new grad nurses coming to share their experience with the club. Interested, let Emily know.
    • Another event: Pre-nursing Q&A Night. Nursing students share their experience with Pre-nursing students.
      • Also, looking at possibly partnering with Santa Rosa Junior College so students interested in nursing can learn about different pathways.
  2. Treasurer’s report: bank account balance.
  3. Mentorship Director Report: A mentorship sign-up sheet was passed for Pre-nursing student.
    • Pre-nursing students can sign up to be paired up with a nursing student mentor.
  4. Social Media Director: Follow us on Instagram: @ssunursingclub and on Facebook– Sonoma State Nursing Student Association.
  5. Merchandising Director: We have older decals and badge reels for sale. 1 for $1.
  6. Fundraising Director: We are still selling multicolored Sonoma State Nursing Student Association pens for 2 for $5.
    • Also– dine & donate events on the horizon.

III: Advisor Report:

  1. Any news or updates from Dr. Napoli
    • March 28th from 0800-1200, SSU is hosting an event called Expanding Your Horizons.
    • Event rotates and is held at SSU this year; every other year it is hosted by Santa Rosa Junior College. Event is for middle school students with an interest in healthcare. Features a jeopardy-like game with prizes.
    • Need is for about 5 volunteers. Don’t have to stay the whole time; can just come for part of it. Contact Dr. Napoli if you are interested.
  2. Dr. Napoli also mentioned the NSNA National Conference April 15-19 in Orlando, FL. Theme is “Nursing: The Most Magical Profession on Earth.” Discounted Disney World tickets are offered if you register for the conference before March.

IV: New Business:

  1. Future volunteer opportunities: please let Lorna know if you know of any volunteer opportunities.
  2. Emily made contact with a DNP named Dr. Barajas. She is available to tutor nursing students and pre-nursing students. Subjects include Anatomy, Physiology, NCLEX, Med/Surg, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, etc. See Resources for her contact info!
  3. Volunteer Hours
    • We will now be keeping track of volunteer hours on paper, rather than online. Keep track of your hours on the sheet and turn them in to count toward your honor cords.
    • Volunteer hours include meetings.
